YES. You need a criminal defense attorney immediately. These days, officers don't get cats out of our trees. If the police are calling you about a crime, and you didn't report it, you are very likely to be a suspect. The only thing you can do to protect yourself is to hire a lawyer.
Everyone gets nervous when talking to police officers. Whether that officer is wearing a uniform, or a plain clothes detective, they are trained to use your words against you. Officers are trained to remember and use your most incriminating statements. They are trained to use your nervousness against you. They're trained to get you to talk, and keep talking.
You have an absolute right to remain silent. That right cannot be used against you. You have an absolute right to an attorney. That, too, cannot be used against you. The fact that you remained silent cannot be discussed in a jury trial, if the police charge you. The fact that you requested an attorney cannot be mentioned to a jury. In fact, if the police question you after a request to remain silent, or a request for an attorney, your statements cannot be used against you. But why give them a statement if your silence cannot be mentioned, later on. Just don't do it.
When the police call, or come knocking, a lawyer is absolutely necessary. Your silence is necessary too.
CALL A LAWYER. CALL NEAL WEINGART. THEN, BE QUIET!
